Today the situation is little changed, the vast majority of the RP population live as tenant farmers that don’t own the land they till, where landlords get 60% or more of the harvest, and paid day labourers earn less than the daily minimum recommended by government bodies (eg. in Noynoy’s familiy hacienda in Tarlac they’re paid P9.50/wk).
Marcos or Cory, Arroyo or Noynoy, the reality is the Philippine situation doesn’t change much from president to president. The questions you must ask yourself is why? what does this say about democracy in the country? who is really in control? and for whose benefit?
